  {"id":2073,"date":"2022-08-30T17:27:22","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T17:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/?p=2073"},"modified":"2022-08-30T20:53:12","modified_gmt":"2022-08-30T20:53:12","slug":"students-scholarships-and-one-very-special-staircase-state-funding-makes-an-impact-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/students-scholarships-and-one-very-special-staircase-state-funding-makes-an-impact-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Students, scholarships and one very special staircase: State funding makes an impact on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"602\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/files\/2022\/08\/1949-Grand-Staircase.jpg\" alt=\"Grand staircase outside Quinn Coliseum \" class=\"wp-image-2117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/files\/2022\/08\/1949-Grand-Staircase.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/files\/2022\/08\/1949-Grand-Staircase-800x401.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/files\/2022\/08\/1949-Grand-Staircase-768x385.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Oregon\u2019s 2022 legislative session, EOU will see several important investments in student support services, scholarships and its iconic Grand Staircase.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are happy to announce that À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ had a very successful February session with several significant investments from the state,\u201d EOU President Tom Insko said. \u201cI greatly appreciate the hard work and advocacy of our regional legislators, trustees, students, and partners who pressed for support of our mission as Oregon\u2019s Rural University.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Restoration of the Grand Staircase<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EOU will receive $4 million to restore the historic Grand Staircase on the north side of the La Grande campus as both a practical access point and distinctive architectural feature of the community and region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis investment in restoration of the Grand Staircase will enable us to take care of a historic community icon and leverage a significant connection between the university and community,\u201d Vice President for University Advancement Tim Seydel said. \u201cIt means a great deal to many of our alumni, community members and friends of the university. Credit for keeping this project moving forward goes to our Staircase workgroup, which spent many years advocating for this historically significant stairway that has been a part of EOU since our founding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visual and Performing Arts Endowment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional scholarships in music, theatre, art and similar programs will be available to EOU students, thanks to a $1 million investment in arts and culture.
