Kelsha is a former EOU Alumni Association board member. <\/span><br \/>\n<b>Nikki (Osborne) Strock, \u201915 and \u201916<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, married <\/span><b>Austin Strock, \u201917 and \u201918<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on July 14, 2018 in Selah, Wash. Both the bride and groom earned undergraduate and master\u2019s degrees from EOU.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Sidronio Rangel, \u201918<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, married Karina Gastelum on July 7, 2018 in Fruitland, Idaho. Karina is pursuing a bachelor\u2019s degree at EOU, and Sidronio served as ASEOU President in 2017-18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>BIRTHS<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Carrie (Worley) LaMar, \u201901<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Bobby LaMar welcomed Anaya LaMar on Nov. 3, 2016 in Portland.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Cory (Nelson) Teckman, \u201904, \u201906, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Nick Teckman welcomed Tatum V. Teckman on March 5, 2018 in Portland.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Adriana (Mendoza) DalSoglio, \u201906, \u201908<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and<\/span><b> Kyle DalSoglio, \u201907, \u201909<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">welcomed Mateo DalSoglio on Feb. 6, 2018 in Boise.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Julie (Butterfield) Justesen, \u201908<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Zack Justesen welcomed Jaxon Justesen on March 9, 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Don Heuberger, \u201976<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, retired in May after 35 years as head baseball coach and 29 years as athletic director at Regis High School in Salem. <\/span><br \/>\n<b>Rusty Bradshaw, \u201982, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">got a publishing deal for his first book, titled, \u201cThe Rehabilitation of Miss Little.\u201d A student journalist at EOU and newspaper reporter for 40 years, Bradshaw makes his debut in fiction next year.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Stephanie Bray, \u201906<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is serving as interim principal at Franklin Elementary School in Pullman, Wash., after teaching first grade in the district. She earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from EOU.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Austie (Gregory) Baird, \u201907, \u201909<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, launched A.B.Baird Publishing, which brings undiscovered poets together to achieve their dreams of publication. <\/span><br \/>\n<b>Karen Spears Zacharias, \u201915<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, received the 2018 Appalachian Heritage Writer\u2019s Award. In conjunction with the award, her novel Mother of Rain was chosen for this year\u2019s One Book One West Virginia program. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Obituaries<\/h2>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-5\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"300px\" height=\"auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/files\/2019\/04\/jennie-messmer.jpg\" title=\"Jennie Messmer\" alt=\"Jennie Messmer\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-7\">\n<p class=\"lead\">Jennie (McPherren) Messmer, \u201996, led a life of public service. She passed away at her home in Silverton on March 11 at age 58 after battling pancreatic cancer.<br \/>\nBorn in Eugene in 1960, Jennie met Rhine Messmer at 25 and they got married soon after. Jennie earned her bachelor\u2019s degree and worked in EOU\u2019s distance education department during the 1980s and \u201990s. A mother of two, she worked at the League of Oregon Cities and the other local governments.
