His media career began at a small radio station in La Grande and saw his footage featured on nationwide broadcasts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mary Strode, \u201982<\/strong>, retired from the California Department of Public Health after a long career of leadership and service to the public. She looks forward to enjoying her animals, friends and family, and also her favorite pastimes such as travel, camping, kayaking and the outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>J.T. Higgins, \u201989<\/strong>, was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Heather Moon, \u201998<\/strong>, Chair of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Lewis-Clark State College played an important role in Idaho\u2019s response to COVID-19. Moon helped develop mathematical models to show the positive effects of social distancing practices.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Columba Jones, \u201906, has returned to her other alma mater, Hood River Valley High School to serve as interim principal, and the school\u2019s first biracial principal.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imbler High School agricultural sciences teacher <strong>JD Cant, \u201910<\/strong>, was named InterMountain Teacher of the Year and is in the running for the statewide title.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Victoria Davis, \u201916<\/strong>, is practicing as a Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a high school counselor in Los Angeles. \u201cI appreciate my undergrad education at EOU and how it has helped me get to where I am today,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kendra De Hoog, \u201919<\/strong>, earned her second bachelor\u2019s degree (nursing) from the Oregon Health and Science University, and less than a year later she\u2019s helping fight the COVID-19 pandemic as an emergency department (ED) nurse at the St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Share your news at <a href=\"http:\/\/eou.edu\/alumni\/updates\">eou.edu\/alumni\/updates<\/a>!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Obituaries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/mountaineer-magazine\/files\/2020\/11\/Randy-Dolven_Courtesy-Heath-Dolven-Tri-City-Herald-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1308\" width=\"213\" height=\"236\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Randy Dolven, \u201967<\/strong>, the retired Kamiakin High School teacher, coach and administrator died on March 13 at the age of 74.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 6-foot-4, Dolven was a star athlete at EOU, playing baseball and basketball. He was inducted into the EOU Hall of Fame in 1989 for baseball, and he is still EOU\u2019s all-time leading career scorer and career rebounding leader for men\u2019s basketball. He was an NAIA honorable mention All-American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He married his college sweetheart Cheeta in 1968, and then coached EOSC\u2019s junior varsity basketball team for two seasons. At 25 years old, he was hired to teach history and start a boys basketball program at a first-year high school in Kennewick. He eventually became the school\u2019s athletic director, overseeing all athletic teams for eight years. Dolven retired in 2000, but stayed on for five years as a consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was the glue for the school, for at least the first 30 years&#8230; To this day, he was the guy I would never want to disappoint\u2026.
