The CEAD Conference<\/strong> invites participants to reflect on how we connect with others, question assumptions, and expand our understanding of a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. Attendees will explore how communication shapes relationships and discover tools to foster empathy, reduce misunderstandings, and recognize the value of individual and collective stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sponsored by the Center for Strategic Equity Initiatives and the Student Council, this free event is open to all EOU students, faculty, and staff, as well as non-EOU college students and high school students. Conference registration for community members and all others is $50. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided through generous support from Genuine Foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conference Goals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Keynote speaker and Workshop presenter Dr. Jeremiah Sims will guide participants in exploring how we can create stronger communities by showing up as our full selves and making room for others to do the same. By centering connection, curiosity, and care, Dr. Sims calls us all in to the idea that we all benefit when we take the time to understand one another by engaging in honest conversations that focus on understanding, empathy, and bridge-building across different perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through both the keynote and interactive sessions, participants will walk away with practical strategies to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Practice authentic communication grounded in empathy, clarity, and mutual respect<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Understand how communication patterns influence relationships and our shared campus culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Develop skills to navigate conflict with compassion, create trust, and build spaces where people feel supported and heard<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Also, as part of this year\u2019s program, we are proud to feature project presentations from participants in the IMPACT Equity and IDEAL Training programs. These students, faculty, and staff have spent the academic year deepening their equity knowledge and working on initiatives to make our campus and community more accessible. We encourage everyone to attend these presentations to support their peers and celebrate the important and courageous work being done across campus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The CEAD Conference supports EOU\u2019s mission to prepare students for leadership rooted in thoughtful reflection and engagement. Students will have the opportunity to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Deepen their understanding of how social dynamics\u2014such as access, influence, and representation\u2014impact individuals and communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Explore how personal experiences and cultural influences shape beliefs, behaviors, and decision-making<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Strengthen their ability to engage in respectful conversations that bridge differences and encourage connection<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Practice listening and communication techniques that promote understanding, trust, and collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The CEAD Conference offers a unique opportunity for participants to broaden their worldview, challenge their perspectives, and build skills that contribute to strong, healthy relationships\u2014on campus and beyond.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
