Hoke Student Monitor

The Hoke Building Monitor position offers students a flexible on-campus job with evening and weekend hours. Monitors enjoy working in a central location where they interact with peers and contribute to a safe, welcoming environment. The role provides independence and responsibility while allowing time for coursework and involvement in campus life.

Job Duration	Academic year as long as FWS is available and the student maintains enrollment.
Type of work schedule	Evenings and Weekends preferred, but some day time hours can be discussed. Flex schedule – agreed upon.
Estimated numbers of hours per week	10-15 hours
Experiential Learning:	Students in this role gain valuable experience in customer service, communication, and problem-solving. They develop a professional work ethic by balancing responsibility with accountability and learn how their efforts contribute to campus operations. Monitoring building use provides transferable skills in observation, reporting, and collaboration that connect to a variety of academic and career paths.
Professional Development:	Building Monitors receive on-the-job training in facility oversight and student engagement. They learn how to handle building usage reporting, practice maintaining a professional presence, and represent the Center for Student Involvement. These skills prepare students for future leadership opportunities and strengthen employability in roles requiring dependability, attentiveness, and interpersonal communication.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:	– Monitor activity in the Hoke Union Building to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. – Record and track student usage of the building and its equipment. – Report observations and provide input to support improvements in operations and resources. – Serve as a positive, approachable representative of the Center for Student Involvement. – Maintain a dependable and professional presence during scheduled evening and weekend shifts.
Minimum Qualifications:	– Must be a currently enrolled EOU student. – Dependable, trustworthy, and responsible. – Friendly and approachable demeanor. – Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications:	– Previous experience in customer service, peer support, or building/facility monitoring. – Familiarity with the Hoke Union Building and campus resources. – Ability to handle minor issues independently while knowing when to seek supervisor support.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:	– Strong interpersonal and communication skills. – Ability to remain attentive and engaged during shifts. – Organizational skills to accurately track building usage. – Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a safe, welcoming environment.
